The conference was first held in 1976, at a time when an event of such nature and scope was deemed to be too alternative and highly improbable. The convergence of science and spirituality was then far from being a top priority for mainstream academia even amongst early innovative thinkers. Born out of a genuine aspiration to serve humanity and with only very limited resources, the avant-garde event was made possible thanks to a bold collaborative effort made by its two original co-creators, John and Marilyn Rossner, and their dedicated friends from the fields of science and spirituality.

Montréal-based Concordia University provided a promising setting for the first edition of the conference, which gathered some 10,000 people from around the world. Throughout the years, the conference became an international household name for people from all walks of life. The event created an ideal setting for the consideration of new findings in science and spirituality.

Today, the conference has grown to be a leading global network of distinguished hard science researchers, spiritual exponents and holistic practitioners, united in their quest for the advancement of knowledge and the fulfilment of humanistic endeavors.
